.....is so versatile, it can be applied to virtually any material. Traditionally the process called screen printing or silkscreen printing, is a method of print making in which a design is imposed on a screen of silk or other fine mesh, with blank areas coated with an impermeable substance, and ink is forced through the mesh onto the printing surface.Originally, production garment decoration has relied on screen printing for printing designs on garments including t-shirts, sweatshirts, and other fabric type textiles. Recently, new methods and technologies have become available such as Heat Transfer utilizing an heat press to transfer the printed image to the garment, and Direct Garment Printing using modified consumer-quality, and task-specific designed printers. Screen printing, however, has remained an attractive, cost-effective, and high production-rate method of printing designs onto garments.
These inks offer a child safe, environmentally friendly alternative to the traditional plastic based inks. These are the inks primarily used by Ax Graphics, for their soft feel and for their Eco Friendly properties.
Discharge ink is used to print lighter colours onto dark background fabrics, they work by removing the dye of the garment – this means they leave a much softer texture. It adds variety to the design or gives it that natural soft feel.
Plastisols are the most commonly used inks for printing designs on to garments, and are particularly useful for printing opaque graphics on dark fabrics. Plastisol inks are not water-soluble. The ink is composed of PVC particles suspended in a plasticizing emulsion. Plastisol inks are recommended for printing on colored fabric. On lighter fabric, plastisol is extremely opaque and can retain a bright image for many years with proper care.
CMYK or Four Color Process
Four-color process is when the artwork is created and then separated into four colors (CMYK) which combine to create the full spectrum of colors needed for photographic prints. This means a large number of colors can be simulated using only 4 screens, reducing costs, time, and set-up. The inks are required to blend and are more translucent, meaning a compromise with vibrancy of color.
